WCN is a non-profit, 503(c)(1), focused on protecting the biodiversity in the world through its network of conservationists. WCN is connected with over 25 organizations and works in over 70 countries. WCN was also rated a 100% in terms of transparency by Charity Navigator, so you can choose where your donations go to and support the conservationists and projects you believe in.
Twice a year WCN hosts an expo to spread awareness about conservation and show what conservationists have done and been working on. Every expo is distinct, with different speaker lists and new topics or fresh looks at old ones, I know this as I’ve been going to these expos since I was 9 years old and have gone to a over 15 expos. I strongly recommend that anyone interested in animals visit at least one of these expos, as these expos introduced me to and got me interested in conservation. It’s an incredible place for animal lovers, as you see all these amazing people express their genuine passion and love for the animal they’re fighting to protect.
This year was even greater than the last, with conservationists explaining how they’re addressing poaching, combating land loss and fighting climate change in new manners all specific to their animals. All the talks are available online and I strongly recommend anyone interested in looking at the woolly monkey and cotton top tamarin talks. As they embody what makes WCN so great, with the woolly monkey talk showing a new conservationist taking stage and sharing their reliance and the cotton top tamarin talk showing an older WCN partner and the community aspect of WCN.
Below is a photo from 2017, of my first meeting with Dr. Rodney Jackson, an amazing snow leopard conservationist and the winner of the Rolex Awards.
