I traveled from Lusaka to Siavonga, which is a town in southern Zambia located right next to Lake Kariba. Lake Kariba is one of the biggest man-made lakes in the world and is right on the border between Zambia and Zimbabwe. Siavonga is a popular place for people to visit if they want to get away from Lusaka for a few days and relax by the water. It is also known for its nice views of the lake, hotels, resorts, and activities you can do around the water.

To get to Siavonga, we took buses from Lusaka. The trip cost us around 160 kwacha, so it was pretty cheap and was a good option if you don’t have your own car. The buses were fine for getting there, but I would definitely recommend taking your own car if you have the option. One of the biggest problems was getting around once we arrived in Siavonga. There is no Yango or Uber there, so you can’t just order a ride whenever you need to go somewhere. We had to rely on local transportation, and the buses kept getting smaller as we got closer to where we were going. At one point, we ended up with 13 people packed into a car that was supposed to fit around 8 people. It was definitely a tight fit and not the most comfortable ride, but it was also pretty funny and made the trip more memorable.

Once we got to Siavonga, we spent some time hanging out at the Kariba Hotel. The hotel was really nice and had a great view of Lake Kariba. It also had waterslides, which made it a fun place to spend the day, especially because we could relax by the lake while also having something to do. The view from the hotel was probably one of my favorite parts because you could see the lake and the surrounding area, which was a really nice change from being in Lusaka.

Overall, I really enjoyed the trip to Siavonga. The journey there was definitely an experience, especially with the buses and trying to fit so many people into a small car, but it was worth it once we arrived. I would recommend visiting Siavonga if you want to take a break from Lusaka and spend some time near the water. My main recommendation would be to drive there yourself if possible, since having your own car would make it much easier to get around and explore the area. Even though transportation was a little difficult, the lake, the views, and places like the Kariba Hotel made Siavonga a really nice place to visit.
