While Victoria Falls was definitely the main reason we went to Livingstone, there is actually a lot more to do in the area. One of the things we did was a game drive near the Zambezi River. The park we went to is the second smallest national park in Zambia, so it isn’t a huge park, but there was still a surprising amount of wildlife to see.

There aren’t really any cats or major predators in the park, so you aren’t going there expecting to see lions or leopards. However, the park was filled with animals. We saw tons of impalas, as well as vervet monkeys and baboons. We were also able to see hippos, giraffes, zebras, and wildebeest throughout the drive.

One of the coolest moments was when a group of elephants basically blocked the road in front of our game vehicle. We had to just sit there and wait for them to move. Seeing elephants that close was incredible, especially when they are just casually walking across the road like they own the place. It was one of those moments where you just have to stop and watch.

Towards the end of the game drive, we were also able to see rhinos. I had never seen a rhino in person before, so that was really fascinating. Overall, the entire game drive was a really great experience, especially considering it was only around $40 per person for two hours. I would definitely recommend doing it if you are in Livingstone.

After the game drive, we did a sunset cruise on the Zambezi River. This was probably one of the most relaxing things we did during the trip. The river was really beautiful, and watching the sunset while being out on the water was a great way to end the day. It was also a completely different experience from seeing Victoria Falls. Instead of hiking around and getting soaked from the falls, you are just sitting on the river watching the sun go down and looking at the surrounding scenery.

There are also other places around Livingstone that I didn’t get a chance to fully explore. One of them is Mukuni Big 5 Park, which has a bunch of different animals, including tigers, lions, and caracals. So if you are interested in seeing more animals, that is another place I would recommend looking into.

There is also a lookout tree on the way to Mukuni that you can climb. It is a little sketchy getting up there, but it is also pretty fun. Once you are at the top, you get a really nice view of the surrounding area, so it is worth stopping if you are already heading that way.

Overall, I would definitely recommend trying to explore Livingstone beyond just Victoria Falls. Victoria Falls is obviously incredible and should be at the top of your list, but there are so many other things to do around the area. Between the game drives, the Zambezi River, the different parks, and all the other activities, you can easily spend several days there without running out of things to do.
